Why Do So Many Thebarton Homes Still Have Clay Sewer Drains?
Because most of the suburb was built early and has been rebuilt on the same small blocks ever since. Thebarton was largely built out by 1921, and Adelaide’s original sewerage system was laid in salt-glazed clay pipe. Unless a property has been re-drained, that generation of pipe commonly still runs from the house to the boundary. Roots at the joints and movement in Adelaide’s clay soil are the two usual causes we find, and a camera inspection tells you which one you have.
Is My Street In Thebarton Or Southwark Now?
If you’re in the north-eastern corner, by the River Torrens and Port Road, it may now be Southwark. That suburb was created in October 2025 from part of Thebarton, and it kept the 5031 postcode and the City of West Torrens as its council. Many of Thebarton’s older homes were built side by side and drain to one shared private line, so a blockage at your place can be a blockage next door too.
