Whole House Water Filters Adelaide
Whole House Water Filters Installed by Your Adelaide Plumbing Team
Adelaide water is safe to drink, treated to Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, and also hard, chlorinated, and occasionally tastes like the pool. Every tap in the home, every appliance, every shower, and every kettle deals with it. A whole-house water filter fitted at the mains entry point treats the water for everything inside your boundary in one go.
We’ve spent 15+ years installing filtration across Adelaide, from coastal homes in Semaphore where salt-adjacent water stresses fittings to hills properties in Stirling running on rainwater tanks. Our licensed team (Licence PGE #360928) specifies the right system for your home’s water source and use pattern, installs it to AS/NZS 3500, handles ongoing cartridge service, and sorts out the plumbing integration that retail-only sellers leave to you.
Every install is backed by our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee, 260+ five-star Google reviews from Adelaide neighbours, and our Clean Home Guarantee. Call us on (08) 8152 9100 to book a free on-site water assessment.
What's Actually in Adelaide's Water Supply
Adelaide water starts in the Mount Lofty Ranges or the Murray, gets treated by SA Water, and arrives at your meter meeting the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. That makes it safe. It doesn’t make it good.
The issues we see most often when we test water across Adelaide homes:
- Chlorine and chloramine taste and smell
- Calcium and magnesium hardness scale
- Sediment from older mains and service lines
- Rainwater tank contamination on hills properties
- Skin and hair dryness from chlorinated showers
- Reduced lifespan of hot water elements and appliances
Adelaide’s water is genuinely hard compared to other Australian capitals. Calcium and magnesium leave the white scale you see on shower screens, kettles, and tapware. Hills homes in Stirling, Mount Barker, and Bridgewater often run primarily on rainwater with mains backup, which catches everything off the roof and needs UV sterilisation rather than softening.
A whole-house filter matched to your actual water source addresses the specific issues you’re dealing with, not a generic list.
When Whole House Filtration Is Actually Worth Installing
A filtration system is a mid-four-figure investment. The honest answer to “is it worth it?” depends on what you actually want it to do. It’s worth it if you notice chlorine taste or smell at every tap, if someone in the household has sensitive skin or asthma reactive to chlorinated water, if you’re on rainwater and want consistent quality without worrying about tank events, if you’re tying it into a kitchen or laundry refit and want the plumbing integration done once properly, or if you’ve just replaced a hot water system or dishwasher and want to extend the life of the next one.
It’s probably not worth it if your only concern is drinking water (an under-sink system is cheaper), if your main issue is calcium scale (you need a softener, not a filter), or if you’re on mains water in a newer outer suburb with low sediment.
Honest trade-offs: cartridges are consumable, so budget for an annual replacement spend that’s modest compared to the install. Water pressure drops marginally across the filter housing, though properly sized systems don’t notice it. Installation requires a plumbing modification at the mains entry point, which is licensed work.
We’d rather tell you a filter isn’t right for your situation than sell you one you won’t get value from. Call (08) 8152 9100 to book an honest on-site assessment.
How We Install Your Whole-House Water Filter
A filter is only as good as the installation. An incorrectly plumbed system leaks, reduces pressure excessively, or sits in a location you can’t service. Ours don’t.
The five-step install process we follow on every job:
- On-site water assessment and testing
- System specification and upfront quote
- Licensed install to AS/NZS 3500 with bypass valve
- Pressure-test and serviceable housing location
- Commission, flush and walk-through with homeowner
- Compliance certificate from the OTR
For rainwater supplies, we discuss UV stage inclusion at the assessment stage. Bypass valves are standard so you can keep water flowing during cartridge changes. The compliance certificate documents that the install meets AS/NZS 3500 under South Australia’s Office of the Technical Regulator, which is good for insurance and resale.
Our Clean Home Guarantee means we leave your laundry, cupboard, or wherever the system lands the way we found it.
How Whole-House Filtration Actually Works
A whole-house filter sits on the water supply line at the point it enters your home, after the meter and before the internal plumbing branches out. Every tap, shower, and appliance is fed filtered water from a single installation.
The standard stages a quality system runs through:
- Stage 1: 5-micron sediment filtration
- Stage 2: coconut-shell activated carbon
- Stage 3: KDF media for heavy metals (optional)
- UV sterilisation for rainwater supplies
- Bypass valve for cartridge changes
- Pressure-tested mains-entry connection
What filtration doesn’t do: standard sediment and carbon filters don’t soften water. If calcium scale is your primary concern, you need a dedicated water softener, not a filter. They’re different technologies, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling the wrong thing.
Whole-house treats every tap; under-sink treats the kitchen tap only. If drinking water is your only concern, an under-sink 5-stage or 6-stage with reverse osmosis costs less. If every shower, appliance, and outside tap matters, whole-house is the answer.
Water Filtration Services for Adelaide Homes
We cover the full arc from specification to ongoing service, across every major brand.
Specification and water test. On-site water assessment, review of your home’s water source (mains, rainwater, or hybrid), use pattern, and existing plumbing layout. We recommend a system that actually matches your water, not the one with the highest margin.
Install to AS/NZS 3500. Licensed plumbing install at the mains entry point, with bypass valve, serviceable housing location, and pressure-tested connection. We install all major brands including Puretec, Filtatank, and specialist configurations for rainwater or hybrid properties.
Cartridge service and replacement. Scheduled cartridge replacement on the correct cycle (typically 6 to 12 months sediment, 12 to 24 months carbon). We handle it on a reminder service so you don’t forget and end up drinking unfiltered water for six months. Call (08) 8152 9100 to book a service.

Water Filter Questions Adelaide Neighbours Ask
How much does a whole-house water filter cost installed in Adelaide?
Most quality systems sit between $2,500 and $4,500 installed for mains-water homes. Rainwater setups with UV sterilisation typically run $3,500 to $5,500. We provide an upfront price after an on-site water test, so the quote matches your actual water rather than a generic assumption.
How often do cartridges need changing?
Sediment cartridges typically every 6 to 12 months depending on water condition. Activated carbon cartridges every 12 to 24 months. UV globes (rainwater systems) annually. We offer a cartridge service subscription with reminders so you don’t forget and lose filtration quality.
What does your warranty cover?
Our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee covers the plumbing install for as long as you own the home. The filter housing and internal components are covered by manufacturer warranty, typically 10 years on quality system housings. Replacement cartridges are consumables, not warranty items.
Can you install any brand I've already bought?
Yes. We’re brand-agnostic and install Puretec, Filtatank, and most reputable systems regardless of where they were purchased. What matters for the install is the compliance of the plumbing work, which is covered by Licence PGE #360928 and meets AS/NZS 3500 regardless of the brand in the housing.
Does a whole-house filter soften hard water or fix existing scale?
No. Sediment and carbon filtration don’t soften water and won’t dissolve scale that’s already inside your hot water tank or pipework. If calcium build-up is your main concern (scale on kettles, shower screens, reduced hot water element life) you need a water softener, which uses different technology (usually an ion exchange resin). A filter and a softener can be installed together, but they’re different jobs and need to be specified as such. Filtration protects the next hot water system from accelerated scale build-up but won’t fix an existing heavily-scaled tank. We’d rather tell you that up front than sell you a filter that won’t fix your actual problem.
Can I finance the install with Humm?
Yes. We’re partnered with Humm for flexible payment plans*, no deposit, fast online approval. Our team handles the application when you book the install, so finance is sorted before work starts. Call (08) 8152 9100 to discuss options.
