Blocked Sink Adelaide
Blocked Sink Solutions for Adelaide Kitchens, Bathrooms, and Laundries
A sink that won’t drain doesn’t just slow down the dishes – it stops a kitchen, a morning routine, or a week’s worth of laundry. If you’ve got water pooling in a bowl, a gurgle coming from the overflow, or a slow spiral that used to be a normal drain, something in your waste pipes has narrowed or blocked.
We’ve spent 15+ years unblocking sinks across every type of Adelaide home – the cast-iron traps under a 1920s Norwood kitchen, the modern chrome P-traps in a Mawson Lakes build, the laundry tubs working overtime in family homes across the metro area. Our licensed team (Licence PGE #360928) turns up the same day, diagnoses the actual cause rather than guessing, and clears the blockage without damaging the pipes or the cabinetry around them.
Every job is backed by our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee, 260+ five-star Google reviews from Adelaide neighbours, our Clean Home Guarantee, and our We Fix It or It’s Free* promise. If we can’t clear your blocked sink, you don’t pay.
What's Actually Happening When Your Adelaide Sink Won't Drain
Under every sink sits a simple piece of plumbing called a P-trap – the U-bend you can see inside the cabinet. Its job is to hold a pocket of water that blocks sewer gas from travelling back up into your home. From the P-trap, a waste arm carries water sideways to a branch drain inside the wall, which feeds into the main stack running down to the sewer.
That whole run is gravity-fed. It relies on a clean pipe wall, a correct fall gradient, and a clear vent. When anything narrows the pipe, water starts backing up at the weakest point – usually the fixture itself.
- Hard-water mineral scale narrowing the pipe
- Grease and fat solidifying on cool pipe walls
- Hair, soap scum, and product residue plugs
- Lint and detergent build-up in laundry lines
- Corroded galvanised pipes in older homes
- Foreign objects or fatbergs blocking flow
Adelaide conditions accelerate the problem. Our hard water leaves mineral scale on the inside walls of drain pipes, gradually narrowing the internal diameter year after year. In older inner-eastern suburbs like Norwood and Stepney, many homes still have original galvanised waste lines that corrode from the inside out. In newer outer suburbs, dishwasher pump-out volumes and growing family loads push modern systems past what the original installers designed for.
Try These Sink Unblocking Steps Before Calling a Plumber
For a slow drain or a light blockage, one of the steps below usually works. If you’ve tried two or three and the sink still won’t clear, it’s time to call us. Please don’t reach for Drano or chemical drain cleaners – caustic soda and sulphuric-acid-based cleaners damage chrome-plated traps, generate heat that can warp PVC, and leave residue that makes the next plumber’s job harder.
- Boiling water plus a squirt of dish soap
- Half a cup of baking soda, then white vinegar
- Manual P-trap clean with a bucket underneath
- Plunger with the overflow hole blocked off
- Hand-held drain snake from the hardware store
- Skip the chemical drain cleaners entirely
Time to call a plumber if water won’t move at all, multiple fixtures are affected, there’s visible leaking under the sink, or you’ve tried the steps above and the drain is still slow. We’re on (08) 8152 9100 – same-day bookings available across metro Adelaide.
How We Clear a Blocked Sink in Adelaide
No two blocked sinks are identical, so we work through the same diagnostic order every time rather than jumping straight to the biggest tool. The goal is always to clear the blockage without damaging the pipes or the cabinetry around them, and to find out why it happened so you’re not seeing us back next month.
- Inspect and clear the P-trap and waste arm
- Mechanical snake or hydro-jet for deeper clogs
- CCTV drain inspection if cause isn't clear
- Pipe relining for cracked or collapsed lines
- All repairs meet AS/NZS 3500 standard
- Clean Home Guarantee on every visit
Sink & Drain Clearing for Every Adelaide Home
We cover the full range of blocked-sink fixes, from a ten-minute hand clear to a full waste-line replacement when the pipe is past saving.
Fast Clear. Same-day attendance for straightforward sink blockages. Hydro-jet or mechanical snake depending on what the cause is, a clean P-trap reassembled, and your sink back in service inside the visit.
Diagnose & Inspect. When blockages keep coming back or multiple fixtures are affected, we use high-resolution CCTV drain inspections to trace the waste line and find the real cause – scale build-up, pipe damage, a compromised fall, or a structural blockage further downstream.
Repair & Reline. For damaged or corroded waste lines, pipe relining restores the pipe internally without removing cabinetry or cutting into walls. Full trap and waste-arm replacement available when relining isn’t the right fix.

Blocked Sink Questions Adelaide Neighbours Ask Us Most
Q: How much does it cost to unblock a sink in Adelaide?
It depends on the cause and how deep the blockage sits. A simple P-trap clean is a short visit; a hydro-jet clear of a compacted kitchen line with scale build-up takes longer; a CCTV inspection on a recurring problem is a different scope again. Rather than quote a number that won’t match your situation, we diagnose first and give you an upfront price before any work starts. You approve the price before we begin.
Q: Can I unblock a sink myself, and is Drano safe to use?
For light blockages, try these in order. Pour boiling water with dish soap down the drain for grease. Follow with half a cup of baking soda and a cup of white vinegar, leave 30 minutes, then flush with hot water. If that doesn’t work, put a bucket under the P-trap, unscrew the two slip nuts, clean the trap, and reassemble.
We don’t recommend Drano or chemical drain cleaners. Caustic soda and sulphuric-acid-based cleaners damage chrome-plated P-traps, generate heat that can warp or weaken PVC waste pipes, and leave a hazardous residue that makes the next plumber’s job harder. They also rarely solve the underlying cause – most blockages come back within weeks. Mechanical clearing with a snake, hydro-jet, or hand-cleaned trap is safer for your pipes and for the catchment.
Q: How quickly can you get to a blocked sink emergency?
We target a 60-minute response across metropolitan Adelaide for genuine emergencies, 24/7*. Call (08) 8152 9100 and we’ll have a licensed plumber on the way.
Q: Does your work meet Australian Standards?
Yes. All plumbing work we carry out complies with AS/NZS 3500, the Australian Standard for plumbing and drainage. Our team holds Licence PGE #360928 and operates under the oversight of South Australia’s Office of the Technical Regulator. That means repairs, trap replacements, and waste-line work meet current code, and we can document compliance if you ever need to prove it for a property sale or insurance claim.
Q: What's your warranty on blocked sink work?
All workmanship is covered by our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee. If anything we’ve repaired or installed fails because of how we did the work, we return and fix it at no charge, for as long as you own the home. Parts and materials are covered by the manufacturer warranty on top of that.
Q: What equipment do you use to clear a blocked sink?
Depends on the cause. We start with a hand-inspection of the P-trap (resolves most household blockages on the spot), then step up to a mechanical drain snake for deeper branch-drain clogs, then hydro-jet for hardened grease, scale, or compacted debris. For recurring or unclear cases, we bring in CCTV drain cameras to see exactly what’s happening before recommending the right fix.
