Professional Plumbing Services in Port Adelaide Driven by a Winning Attitude
Co-owners Michael Heinrich and Colin Archer-Bourke grew Adelaide Expert Plumbing & Gas from two tradesmen and a van into a team of six on the back of one idea: people deserve a plumber who shows up, tells the truth about the price and does the job properly. It isn’t a complicated philosophy, and they still hold every job to it.
In Port Adelaide, doing it properly often means working inside nineteenth century buildings where the original fabric matters, and around businesses that can’t shut. We locate faults before opening anything up, keep disruption to trading low and leave the place clean. Every job is covered by our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee, and our 260+ five-star Google reviews show how that has gone down with customers.

Port Adelaide Plumbing Services for Homes, Townhouses, Hotels & Shops
The old port has a run of heritage hotels, a brewery, a market, museums and the Commercial Road shopping strip, plus former wool stores now used as homes and cafés. Most people who live here are in townhouses, older homes that share a wall, or the newer apartments at Dock One. Between the homes and the venues, that adds up to a lot of shared services and commercial kitchens. These are the services those homes and businesses rely on: General plumbing, Hot water systems, Drainage, Emergency plumbing and Gas fitting among them.
General Plumbing
Tapware, cisterns and valves in older townhouses coming to the end of their original fittings, and the first round of repairs in newer homes at Dock One.
Blocked Drains
Grease in hotel kitchen lines, silt in low drains near the river. We clear blocked drains with a high-pressure jetter from $79, T&C's Apply, then find out what caused it.
Hot Water Systems
A townhouse unit that's finally given up, or a hotel running out of hot water on a busy night. We repair and replace systems for homes and venues of every size.
Emergency Plumbers
A sewer backing up in a shop below street level, or burst pipes in a converted warehouse overnight. We answer the phone every hour of every day.
Taps & Toilets
Toilets in venues and museums take heavy use, and so do the bathrooms in a busy townhouse. We repair cisterns, pans and dripping taps, handle toilet repairs and keep amenities open where we can.
Commercial Plumbing
Heritage hotels, the market, a brewery, museums and the shops along Commercial Road. Commercial plumbing for kitchens, bars, amenities and trade connections, planned around your trading.
Blocked Sinks
Grease and food scraps harden inside kitchen sink lines, whether it's a café on Commercial Road or a Dock One apartment. We clear the line and check the trap and waste properly.
CCTV Drain Inspections
Where a building sits below the street, or original fabric can't be disturbed, a camera inspection finds the problem before anyone lifts a floor or digs.
Backflow Testing
Hotels, a brewery, a fish market and buildings with fire services all need the right backflow protection on their water connection. We assess, fit and test devices to AS/NZS 3500.

Why Port Adelaide Residents & Business Owners Choose Us
Behind us are 260+ five-star Google reviews, and most of them say roughly the same unglamorous thing. The plumber was on time, the job was explained, the price didn’t change and the mess got cleaned up. That’s the reputation we’re after.
Port Adelaide tests it in a particular way. Between the 1840s and 1870s the town’s streets were built up with material dredged from the river, but many building sites were left lower, so some older shops and hotels have ground floors or rear yards below the footpath. Draining a building that sits beneath its own street needs a careful look before anything is dug, which is why we put a camera down the line first. For hotels, cafés and shops we schedule around trading, and we’re available 24/7, 365 days a year when it can’t wait.
Where Else We Work Around Port Adelaide
Our plumbers work right across Port Adelaide, from Commercial Road and St Vincent Street through the heritage streets of the old port to Dock One and the townhouses around Leadenhall Street. That includes the homes and shops around Lipson, Divett and Todd Streets, and the businesses near Hart’s Mill on Mundy Street. Over the river on the Birkenhead Bridge is Birkenhead, mostly separate houses on the Peninsula, and beyond it the beachside suburbs of Largs Bay and Semaphore, where freestanding houses take over from shops and warehouses. To the south west is West Lakes. We do the same careful work in all of them.

What Port Adelaide Customers Want to Know
Port Adelaide jobs raise questions you won’t hear in most suburbs, from working inside heritage buildings to shops that sit lower than the street outside. Here are the ones we answer most often, plus pricing and timing. If yours isn’t on the list, see our FAQs or call 08 8152 9100.
Do You Take On Jobs Inside Port Adelaide's Heritage Buildings?
Yes. Port Adelaide’s State Heritage Area and its many listed hotels, stores and houses are ordinary work for us. Our approach is to find the fault precisely before anything gets opened, then choose the repair that disturbs the least original fabric, such as relining a pipe or reusing an existing route. If a job would change the building itself, talk to the council about heritage requirements before major work goes ahead.
Water Is Coming Through The Shared Wall Of My Townhouse. What Happens Next?
We isolate the water to stop it getting worse, then trace where it’s coming from, because in homes that share a wall the leak is often on the neighbour’s side or in a shared service. Once we know, we explain it to both owners and, where the pipe is common property, to the corporation that manages the group. For newer homes such as those at Dock One, that’s likely to be a community corporation. You get a written account of what we found so the right party pays.
Why Does The Drain In My Old Port Adelaide Home Or Shop Keep Backing Up?
In the old part of the Port it’s worth checking the levels first. The streets were raised with dredged river material between the 1840s and 1870s, but many buildings weren’t, so some ground floors and rear yards sit below the footpath. In our experience that leaves the lowest drains with very little fall to the street connection, and a partial blockage shows itself quickly. We camera the line, clear it with high-pressure water jetting, and look at whether the layout needs fixing as well as the blockage.
As Well As Homes, Do You Look After Hotel & Café Kitchens In Port Adelaide?
Yes, commercial kitchens are regular work for us here. Food businesses generally need grease pre-treatment before their waste reaches the sewer, and the usual problems are grease building up in sink and floor waste lines, the line into the arrestor blocking, and hot water that can’t keep up at busy times. We clear and repair those lines, fix or upgrade the hot water, and book the work before opening or after close wherever we can.
Does Our Business Need A Backflow Device Tested?
Quite possibly. SA Water requires connections to be assessed for backflow hazard, and larger or higher-risk connections, such as hospitality premises, breweries and buildings with fire services, generally need a rated, testable device at the boundary. We assess the hazard, install the right device to AS/NZS 3500 and test it, and we can tell you onsite what your existing device needs.
Will You Quote Before You Start?
Every time. Our team provide upfront quotes on all jobs prior to commencing any work. Our receptionist doesn’t have access to a price book, because their job is to keep the team running on schedule, dispatched to jobs, and to make sure customers are looked after. The plumber quotes onsite, with multiple options, so you never feel pressured one bit. If you’re calling outside regular business hours, a call-out fee may apply, so call our friendly team to check our availability. We’re on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Can You Get To Port Adelaide Quickly In An Emergency?
For urgent jobs we can typically be there within 60 minutes, at any hour, on any day of the year. If the problem can safely wait, we aim for a same day response. If water is escaping, turn it off at the meter or stopcock while you wait. The business licence is PGE #360928, and everyone we send holds a current individual licence of their own as well as a police check.
