Kitchen Renovations Adelaide
Kitchen Renovations from Your Licensed Adelaide Plumbing and Gas Team
A kitchen renovation looks like a cabinetry job until you try to light the new cooktop and realise the gas line needs recertifying, or turn on the new dishwasher and discover the original waste didn’t have the fall for it. Kitchens are built on plumbing and gas. The cabinetry is what you see; the licensed trade is what makes it work.
We’ve spent 15+ years renovating Adelaide kitchens across every housing era, from the aged copper and legacy gas lines hiding behind inner-east heritage cabinetry, to new builds where cooktop gas fit-off needs certification the same afternoon the bench arrives. Our licensed team (Licence PGE #360928) holds both the plumbing and gas fitting tickets, so the two trades that sit beneath every kitchen are handled in-house rather than subcontracted.
Every renovation is backed by our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee on plumbing and gas work, 260+ five-star Google reviews from Adelaide neighbours, compliance certificates for every licensed stage, and our Clean Home Guarantee. Give us a ring on (08) 8152 9100 to book a design consultation.
The Plumbing and Gas Work Behind a Great Kitchen
Most kitchen renovation conversations start with cabinetry, benchtops, and splashback finishes. Most kitchen renovation failures come from the licensed trade work those surfaces sit on top of.
The licensed bits, in plain terms:
- Gas cooktop line sized and certified to AS 5601
- Sink and dishwasher waste with correct fall under AS/NZS 3500
- Water supply rough-in and isolation valve placement
- Tempering valve on hot water supply (AS 3498)
- Whole-home or under-sink filtration integrated at rough-in
- Plumbing and gas compliance certificates issued on completion
A kitchen designer draws a beautiful space. A cabinetmaker builds stunning joinery. Neither holds a gas licence, and on most kitchen renos the licensed trades get subcontracted to whoever is available that week. We do them in-house under Licence PGE #360928, which means the bit that has to be right is the bit we own. Pre-1980s Adelaide homes regularly have undersized gas runs and aged copper that need upgrade before a modern cooktop or dishwasher can be commissioned, and we build that into the quote up front.
Adding filtration is cleanest at the rough-in phase rather than after the cabinetry lands. See our whole house water filters service for filtration options.
How a Kitchen Renovation With Us Actually Feels
A kitchen reno is a four-to-six-week disruption to the most-used room in the house. Here’s how we run it to keep the weeks bearable. One project lead from first site visit through final handover, so when you need a decision made about a power point location or a question answered about cooktop commissioning, you ring one number.
Cabinetry, benchtops, and appliances quoted at realistic prices for the quality level you’ve chosen. Variations during the build are written and transparent, not a surprise on the final invoice. Progress payments are tied to project stages, and you pay as work completes to spec.
Photos at each stage, especially the covered-up first-fix plumbing and gas work, mean you have a record of what’s behind every finished surface. Compliance certificates (AS/NZS 3500 and AS 5601) plus manufacturer warranties for cabinetry and appliances are delivered in a single handover pack. Daily clean-up keeps your hallway, your laundry, and the street out front liveable during the build.
Lifetime Workmanship on plumbing and gas backs every job, so call us on (08) 8152 9100 if anything needs attention down the track.
Your Kitchen Renovation Stage by Stage
A full kitchen renovation in an Adelaide home typically takes four to six weeks on site, with design and ordering adding another three to four weeks before that.
The seven stages every full reno moves through:
- Stage 1 - Design and detailed quote
- Stage 2 - Product selection and lead times
- Stage 3 - Demolition and strip-out
- Stage 4 - First-fix plumbing and gas
- Stage 5 - Cabinetry, benchtop, splashback
- Stage 6 - Appliance install and fit-off
Stage 7 closes the build with a full clean-up, silicone where required, a final walk-through with you, every compliance and warranty document handed over in a single pack, and our Clean Home Guarantee applied to the rest of the house. Cabinetry is typically Caesarstone or Cosentino benchtops with Blum hardware; appliances cover Miele, Bosch, Fisher & Paykel and your chosen brand; tapware and sinks are Oliveri and Caroma.
For most Adelaide homes the live build runs 20-25 working days. Older homes with gas line or structural complications sometimes extend.
Older Adelaide Kitchens: What We Find Behind the Cabinetry
A kitchen renovation in a 2015 new-build mostly involves cabinetry and appliances. A kitchen renovation in a 1960s Salisbury home or a 1920s Prospect bungalow involves trade work the surface-level quote often doesn’t anticipate. Knowing what to expect by housing era is how we avoid surprise variations.
What we regularly find by housing era:
- Pre-1970s gas supply: undersized lines failing AS 5601
- 1960s-70s builds: aged copper water supply at end of life
- Pre-1983 homes: possible asbestos sheet behind tiling
- Inner-east heritage (Norwood, Stepney, Prospect): legacy gas runs
- Adelaide hard water: heavily calcified in-line fittings
- Heritage overlay (Walkerville, Unley): possible council planning
None of these are problems, they are predictable costs we build into the quote up front. In the inner-east, line upsize and isolation valve upgrade are routine. In the northern and outer-south suburbs (Salisbury, Elizabeth, Morphett Vale), in-wall copper replacement during the reno beats upgrading new tapware onto failing plumbing. Pre-1983 homes get a licensed asbestos assessment before any cutting starts.
Whole-home or under-sink filtration installed during the reno protects every fixture for the decade ahead. See our whole house water filters service for the filtration options that suit your home.
Kitchen Renovation Services for Adelaide Homes
We offer three scopes. The right one depends on how much of the room is changing and who’s managing the broader project.
Full Kitchen Renovation. End-to-end design, demolition, first-fix plumbing and gas, cabinetry, benchtop, splashback, appliance install, and final fit-off. Project managed by our team, compliance certificates issued, single point of contact throughout.
Partial Refresh. Cabinetry refresh, new benchtop, new tapware, or new appliance integration without a full strip-out. Suitable where the bones of the kitchen are sound and a targeted upgrade beats a complete rebuild.
Plumbing and Gas Only (Within Another Builder’s Reno). If you’re working with a kitchen designer, cabinetmaker, or builder who doesn’t hold the plumbing and gas licences, we cover the licensed trade scope within their build. Gas line upgrade, cooktop commissioning, sink and dishwasher rough-in, water filtration integration, tempering valve retrofit, and compliance certificate issue. Your chosen builder runs the broader reno; the licensed trades meet AS/NZS 3500 and AS 5601 under our Licence PGE #360928.

Kitchen Renovation Questions Adelaide Neighbours Ask
How much does a kitchen renovation cost in Adelaide?
A basic cabinetry refresh with new benchtop and tapware sits around $15,000-$20,000. A full mid-range renovation runs $25,000-$40,000 depending on appliances and benchtop choices. Luxury kitchens with premium appliances and stone can exceed $60,000. We quote realistically up front rather than lowballing and invoicing for variations.
How long does a kitchen reno take?
Typical on-site build is 4-6 weeks from demolition to handover. Design, ordering, and cabinetry manufacture add another 4-8 weeks before site work starts. Custom cabinetry is the longest lead item. Older homes with gas line or structural complications sometimes extend the build by a week or two. Plan for 3-4 weeks without kitchen access, and most neighbours set up a temporary kitchen in the laundry or dining area.
Will my old gas line pass current standards for a new cooktop?
Often not, which is why we check first. Older Adelaide homes, particularly pre-1980s builds, frequently have gas supply lines that were compliant when installed but don’t meet current AS 5601 requirements for a modern cooktop. We assess the existing line at quote stage, upgrade if needed under our gas licence, and issue a compliance certificate on completion. Licence PGE #360928, Office of the Technical Regulator oversight.
Should I install whole-house water filtration during the kitchen reno?
Often yes. Integrating filtration is cleaner and cheaper during the rough-in phase than retrofitting later. See our whole house water filters service for options. Adelaide’s hard water accelerates wear on tapware, dishwashers, and ice-makers, so filtration during a kitchen reno protects the new appliances from the day they’re installed.
What's your warranty?
Our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee covers all plumbing and gas work we install. Cabinetry typically carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty. Benchtops, appliances, and tapware have their own manufacturer terms. We collate every warranty document into a single handover pack at completion.
Can I finance the renovation with Humm?
Yes. We’re partnered with Humm for flexible payment plans*, no deposit, and fast approval. Most Adelaide kitchen renovations fit within the Humm range. Our team walks you through the application at the consultation, so finance is organised before demolition starts. *Terms & conditions apply. Chat with a team member to discuss options.
