CCTV Drain Inspections Adelaide
CCTV Drain Inspections from Your Adelaide Neighbourhood Plumbers
When a blocked drains repeatedly, when a sewer smell keeps coming back, or when you’re about to buy a 1920s home and want to know what’s under the paving, you need to see inside the pipe. Guesswork costs money. A camera costs less.
We’ve spent 15+ years diagnosing Adelaide’s drainage, sewer, and stormwater drains with industry-standard HD drain camera systems. Our licensed team (Licence PGE #360928) feeds a waterproof camera and a sonde locator through your line, traces the run end-to-end on a live monitor, marks distance and depth for every issue we find, and delivers a written report with the footage and our recommended fix.
Every inspection is backed by our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee on any repair work, 260+ five-star Google reviews from Adelaide neighbours, and our Clean Home Guarantee. You walk away with the footage, the facts, and a clear call on what to do next.
Don’t let cooktop problems disrupt your meal preparation or risk your family’s safety with DIY gas work. Whether you’re installing a new dream cooktop or need urgent repairs when burners won’t light, your neighbourhood’s licensed gas experts are ready to help. We provide upfront pricing, explain safety requirements clearly, and ensure every job meets AS 5601 standards with proper certification.

What a CCTV Drain Inspection Actually Tells You
A drain camera is more than a novelty video. With the right equipment and a trained local plumbing expert reading what’s on screen, a 30-minute inspection can save thousands in wasted digging.
Every inspection brings four pieces together so you walk away with answers, not guesses:
- HD waterproof camera head with built-in light
- 60 to 100 metre cable reach for residential runs
- Sonde locator pinpoints depth and surface position
- Live monitor view with real-time distance readings
- Video file and stills delivered with distance tags
- Plain-English written report with our recommendation
The live view. You watch with us on the monitor as the camera moves through the line. Root intrusion, hairline cracks, offset joints, collapsed sections, sagged “belly” sections holding water, foreign objects – all visible in real time with distance readings.
The report. On completion you receive the video file, stills of any issues found with their distance markings, and a plain-English summary of what’s wrong, what caused it, and what we’d recommend as the fix. If you need the report for an insurance claim, a pre-purchase inspection, or a building dispute, the documentation stands up. All inspection and repair work meets AS/NZS 3500, the Australian Standard for plumbing and drainage.
What Our Cameras Typically Find in Adelaide Homes
Fifteen years of footage across Adelaide tells us patterns. The same issues recur in the same suburbs for reasons the camera makes obvious.
Older inner-east heritage stock. In Norwood, Stepney, St Peters, and parts of Burnside, the original earthenware sewer laterals laid in the 1920s and 30s are still in service. The inside of the pipe looks like a cracked ceramic egg carton. Tree roots from the plane trees and jacarandas that line those streets have found every joint gap. Our camera usually shows multiple blocked drains caused by root intrusions and several pipe relining repairs within the first 20 metres.
Northern clay plain homes. In Salisbury, Elizabeth, and the broader northern suburbs, reactive clay movement has offset and cracked pipes that were perfectly installed in the 1960s and 70s. The camera shows joint offsets and stress cracks rather than root mass.
Coastal and near-coastal. In Port Adelaide, Semaphore, and Henley Beach, older clay and concrete lines have corroded inside from the higher water table and salt exposure.
Newer outer developments. In Seaford Meadows, Mount Barker, and similar post-2000 estates, modern PVC is generally sound. When we camera these lines, we more often find installation defects (tight bends, inadequate fall) than structural failure.
Knowing what to expect before the camera goes down means we’re not just confirming a problem – we’re already forming the fix. Call your neighbourhood plumbers on (08) 8152 9100 to book an inspection.
When a CCTV Drain Inspection Is Worth Booking
Not every drain problem needs a camera. Most simple blockages are cleared with a plunger, an auger, or a hydro-jet. A CCTV inspection earns its keep when the information the camera provides saves you from spending blind.
These are the moments when neighbours across Adelaide call us in to put a camera down the line:
- Recurring blockages despite repeat clearing
- Pre-purchase inspection on an older Adelaide home
- After a major storm or burst water main
- Insurance, conveyancing or compliance documentation
- Unexplained odour, dampness or wall staining
- Suspected tree root intrusion in heritage suburbs
Heritage homes in the inner-east. Homes built before 1970 in Norwood, Stepney, St Peters, and the broader inner-east often still have original earthenware sewer laterals. A pre-purchase CCTV inspection tells you whether you’re buying a pipe with 20 years left or a replacement job priced into the offer.
If the current problem is an active blocked drains blockage rather than a diagnostic question, clearing comes first and we camera-check afterwards only if the pattern suggests more. Call (08) 8152 9100 to talk through your situation.
What You Get When We Inspect Your Drains
A drain inspection is only as useful as the deliverables after it. Too many “inspections” finish with a shrug and an invoice. Ours don’t.
Every CCTV job from our team comes with the same six deliverables:
- Live monitor view as the camera travels the line
- Sonde-marked findings pinpointed above ground
- Full video file delivered after the inspection
- Stills of every issue tagged with distance readings
- Plain-English written report with our recommendation
- Compliance context aligned to AS/NZS 3500 standards
Written report with recommendations. Plain English, not plumber shorthand. What’s wrong, what caused it, whether it can wait or needs action, and our honest recommendation on the fix. If pipe relining is a better option than excavation, we say so. If excavation is the only realistic answer, we say that too.
All work references current South Australian Office of the Technical Regulator requirements. If the inspection was ordered for a compliance or insurance purpose, the report is written to support that use – and our Clean Home Guarantee means we leave your property the way we found it.

CCTV Drain Inspection Questions Adelaide Neighbours Ask
How much does a CCTV drain inspection cost and how long does it take?
It depends on scope – a single-line recurring-blockage inspection is different from a whole-property pre-purchase assessment. Most single-line residential inspections run 30 to 60 minutes on site, and a whole-property pre-purchase assessment with multiple access points typically runs 1 to 2 hours. We give an upfront price before any work starts, so you approve the scope and the cost before the camera goes down.
How far can your camera go down a drain?
For residential runs, 60 to 100 metres of cable reach covers nearly every Adelaide property’s sewer and stormwater line from end to end. Commercial and main-line inspections can go further with larger equipment. If the line exceeds the reach from one access point, we enter from the next available cleanout.
What do I actually get after the inspection?
A live view on site as the camera moves through your pipe, a full video file of the inspection, stills of any issues with distance markings from the access point, and a written plain-English report with our recommendations. If repair work follows, the report informs the quote.
Will you need to dig anything up?
No. That’s the point of a camera. Inspection is non-invasive – the camera enters through existing cleanouts, gully traps, or inspection openings, and we use the sonde locator to mark any issue location on the surface without digging. Any repair work is quoted separately and is often trenchless via pipe relining.
When should I book a CCTV inspection?
Four common reasons: recurring blockages despite clearing, before buying an older property, after a major storm or clay-soil event, and for insurance or compliance documentation. If you’re unsure whether a camera is worth it for your situation, call us on (08) 8152 9100 and we’ll give you an honest read.
Can the camera confirm tree root intrusion?
Yes, clearly. Tree roots show up on camera as a mass growing through a joint gap or a crack, often with the root system visible as fibre-like intrusion into the pipe bore. We mark the distance and depth from the access point so any repair or relining work targets the exact location.
